How to use SmartScan? What is so smart about the scan?

SmartScan uses artificial intelligence to identify the information you're adding, to extract relevant information, to create categories and to organize everything for you. Collect’d AI will also automatically set an alert if the information contains an expiration date.

How to use SmartScan?

1. Open the Add menu (big + on the navigation bar)
2. Select Smart Scan
3. The SmartScan camera screen will open. 
   Please note that the first time you use Smart Scan, you will be asked to give permission to Collect'd to use your camera - this is required for Smart Scan to work.
4. Position the camera over the piece of information you want to scan.  
   
   
   
   When the camera detects the borders of the information, it will automatically take the picture.  You can also manually take the picture if the camera struggles to find the borders. See tips below for how to take good scans of your information.
5. You can adjust the borders by simply tapping and moving the edges.  The zoom helps getting as close as possible to the borders.  You can also rotate the image if you want.
6. You can add additional images / pages as needed.  SmartScan automatically suggest a second page (which you can Skip), but you can also tap on "Add Image" to add additional images or pages.
   
   
   
   
7. Once done, tap "Continue". 
8. Collect'd AI will try to automatically detect what type of information you are adding. 
   
   
   
   
9. Collect'd AI is still learning and may get this wrong.  In that case, tap "No" and you can select what type of information you are adding.  Note that if Collect'd AI doesn't have enough confidence on what it is, you will see the next screens automatically to ask you to specify the type of information you are adding.
   
   
   
   
   
10. If you cannot find the right information type from the list when you search, please refer to "Adding a Custom Information".
11. Once you selected the information type, tap "Confirm" to add the information.  Collect'd AI engine will automatically extract and organize the information, set reminders if needed, and encrypt the information so only you can access the information.  Once ready to review, you will receive a notification to review the information.  
    
    
    

Tips on how to take a good scan of your information

• A good quality picture means less work. Collect'd AI engine can only classify, extract and organize information if the image has good quality. You can still add low quality pictures, but you will need to enter more information manually in this case.
• Make sure you:
  • Have a good lighting
  • Have a good focus
  • Take the picture on an uniform and different color background to help the camera detect the borders
  • Adjust the edges of your images and rotate as needed
• For IDs/Cards, take a picture of both sides.  The back sometimes hold phone numbers or important information you want easy access to.
• For multi-pages documents, take individual pictures for each page, or instead, upload a PDF version of the document.
